Jamaica moving towards a digital society with CBDCs

On May 11, the Bank of Jamaica announced that a phased roll-out of Jam-Dex, Jamaica’s central bank digital currency, or CBDC, is currently under way. The Caribbean has been leading the effort to adopt CBDCs. 105 countries, representing over 95 per cent of global GDP, are exploring a CBDC. The president of the U.S. issued an executive order titled ‘Ensuring Responsible Development of Digital Asset’, which articulates a policy proposing the regulation of digital assets.
