The U.S. Library of Congress has exempted restrictions from jailbreaking, rooting and ripping videos for remix. Users can now rip videos from DVDs or BluRay disks for remixes and run operating systems and applications from a third party source. Previously in July 2010, the United States government ruled that jailbreaking and rooting of Apple iPhones and Android devices was a legal act, as long as they are not violating the Copyright Law. In January 2012, the government put a ban on Jailbreaking and Rooting of the smartphones.
