Sony BMG has been using extended copy protection software to protect some of its music CDs. The software contains rootkit cloaking techniques that are also found in spyware and viruses. Computer enthusiasts recently slammed Sony claiming that XCP code is invasive. Sony has argued that there is nothing about the software that is hidden the company’s license agreement discloses its presence, and in any case the software is not malicious. Critics say XCP is a solution that is worse than the problem, and users can request to have it removed.”]
