IptabLes and IptabLex botnet targeting Linux servers to run large-scale DDoS attacks

Akamai’s Prolexic division has uncovered a new botnet dubbed IptabLes and IptAbLex. The botnet infects and exploits poorly-maintained Linux servers to run DDoS attacks. One of the attacks reached a peak of 119 Gbps, on entertainment websites. Experts urge admins to patch and properly configure vulnerable Linux servers and monitor the system for signs of infection. The malware is able to infect versions of Apache Struts and Tomcat, but also targeted Elasticsearch search servers that have not been patched.”]
