iPhone Chip Supplier TSMC Stops Production After Computer Virus Attack

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) shut down several of its chip-fabrication factories Friday night after being hit by a computer virus. TSMC estimates that two days of outages will impact revenue by about 3 percent (approx. 250 million) TSMC expects the shutdown will result in shipment delays and additional costs, but is confident shipments delayed in the third quarter will be recovered in the fourth quarter 2018. It remains unclear how the virus infected the factories at the first place and who was responsible.
