Cellular IDS Enables Monitoring of BYOD Devices for Malware

At Def Con, researchers unveiled a first of its kind cellular intrusion detection system that allows organizations to monitor cellular network traffic for malware. The presence of such a system could allow an organization to forego mobile device management software or the need for antimalware protection on every device. The researchers say the system, the first publicly available for enterprise deployments with better hardware, can scale for cellular traffic inspection and is a game-changer for securing personal devices at work. The team infected an Android device with the Android.Stels malware and wrote Snort rules to detect it.
