Imgur Suffered a Small Data Breach in 2014

Imgur says 1.7 million users were hacked in 2014, representing 1.13% of its 150 million users. Only emails and password hashes were lost in the breach. Security researcher Troy Hunt notified the company after he received a copy of the stolen user details himself. Imgur only found out about the breach on Thanksgiving. It took the company 25 hours and 10 minutes to notify users and publicly disclose the incident. The image hosting site is now asking users to change their passwords to the more secure bcrypt algorithm.
