IE8 Stops One Billionth Malware Download

Internet Explorer 8’s Smartscreen Filter has stopped its one billionth malware download, Microsoft has proudly announced. The feature first appeared in IE8 when it was released in March 2009. By August 2009, the filter had blocked only 70 million downloads, the company said. Having reached the one billion mark almost a year later implies that Smartscreen is now blocking roughly that number each month, albeit with a larger share of the browser user base. The filter is similar to similar filters found on browsers such as Mozilla Firefox.”]
