IBM security chief questions new EU data protection laws

IBM’s Joe Anthony claims 24 hours isn’t long enough for companies to make meaningful notifications to authorities. He claims that the new proposals will result in companies providing details of breaches to authorities that will not be representative of how significant the problem is. Anthony argues that in order to make the short notice period more manageable, companies need to move away from manual processes and automate their security systems. The proposed changes to EU data protection laws are still in the early stages of development and are yet to be approved by EU member states and the European Parliament.”]
