House Probes Specifics of Colonial Ransomware Attack

Colonial Pipeline CEO Joseph Blount testified before a House committee on Wednesday about the company’s response to the May 7 ransomware attack. Blount told lawmakers that his company didn’t notify the FBI for four days that the ransom had been paid. Lawmakers also heard testimony that the attackers likely compromised the firm’s network in April. The FBI and Justice Department have been able to claw back $2.3 million of the $4.4 million Colonial Pipeline paid to the attackers. The company has worked with the federal government to address security issues that were exposed during the incident.”]
