House Approves Red Flags Exemptions

Bill goes to president for his signature. Red Flags Rule applies to organizations that must comply with identity theft prevention programs. Lawsuits seeking to block the rule to certain professionals with 20 or fewer employees are pending. Bill uses more general terms to more narrowly define term “creditor” so that, in effect, fewer organizations must comply. The Federal Trade Commission has postponed enforcement of the rule several times; lawsuits are pending against those with 20-plus employees. The bill, which the Senate approved by unanimous consent Nov. 30, now goes to the president.”]
