Heartland Pays $3.6 Mil to Amex for Breach

Heartland Payment Systems will pay American Express $3.6 million to settle charges relating to the 2008 hacking of its payment system. The system was hacked in 2008 and American Express will pay the company roughly $4.5 million to resolve the charges. Social media giants, the government and citizens are more prepared to deal with cybercrime ahead of the November U.S. elections, cybercriminals are stepping up their offensive in both attacks against security infrastructure and disinformation campaigns but this time, social media giants and citizens will be more prepared.
