Hackers not responsible for New York Times website wipeout

The New York Times website went dark around 11:30am Eastern Time on Wednesday morning. The paper says the outage wasn’t due to malicious attacks, as some had feared. The NYT email server was reportedly also affected. The website was back up shortly after the outage, but the paper says it was “experiencing technical difficulties” and that it will be back up. The outage was first reported around 11.30am and continued to display nothing but a terse Service Unavailable error.”]
