Hackers are increasingly using so-called internet of things devices to launch record-breaking DDoS attacks. The most prominent apparent attack of late was directed against the website of cybersecurity journalist Brian Krebs. The attacks highlight structural weaknesses in the internet – now essential to global commerce and business – which wasn’t designed to defend against this type of abuse.
