The National Cybersecurity Strategy being developed for Guyana will work towards fighting cybercrime and protect the public sector agencies and their provided services.
Key points:
- The development of the National Cybersecurity Strategy is being made possible with collaboration between the National Data Management Authority (NDMA) and the Organization for American States (OAS).
- The two agencies will host roundtable discussions at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre with representatives of local financial organizations, the judiciary and telecommunications regulators and operators.
- Representatives of critical infrastructure in aviation, energy, national security, education and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) will also be present at the event for consultations for this development.
- In 2017, the government established a technical working group for cybersecurity which is responsible for creating and promoting government relevant cybersecurity standards, policies, guidelines, and best practices for ministries and government bodies. Members of the body are made up of representatives across 12 public sector agencies
- Ongoing developments are the Cybersecurity Situational Awareness Programme that has already been implemented, an improvement of Government ICT Ecosystem Hygiene and a Network and Cybersecurity Operations Centre.
- These developments will work to enhance Guyana’s cybersecurity resilience and protect government agencies from emerging threats.
