Government Rolls Out Chip and PIN

The U.S. government is rolling out chip-and-PIN-enabled EMV cards for federal employees and benefits programs. The president announced his plan for EMV last October in the wake of high-profile card breaches. Retail groups have criticized banks and credit unions for taking that stance, noting that chip cards are much more secure than chip signatures. Some banks contend that requiring consumers to enter PINs for credit transactions will be confusing, because credit transactions now only require a signature for authentication.”]
