API bug exposed profile data of 500,000 Google Plus users, WSJ report says. Google decided not to disclose bug in order to avoid possible regulatory scrutiny. API bug allowed developers to retrieve data of some users who never intended to share it publicly. Google’s Project Strobe will give users more control over the data they share with apps, starting with more granular Google Account permissions Google is limiting apps that want access to Gmail, SMS, Contacts or Phone permissions.
