Google Apologizes to Chinese Authors for Book Scanning

Google apologizes to Chinese authors’ group over scanning of books by local writers into an online search system. Chinese Writers Association demands Google compensate for scanning works without permission. Google says it hopes to reach a general agreement over resolving tensions by March. One Chinese author has brought a copyright infringement lawsuit against Google for scanning her novel Acid Lover. Google spokeswoman says Google Books complies with U.S. and Chinese law and only shows snippets of copyright books for which it does not have permission from rights holders.”]
