Google announced it will join efforts with ESET, Lookout, and Zimperium to improve malicious Android app detection on submission before they get published on the Play Store. The new partnership dubbed App Defense Alliance will allow Google to boost Play Store’s safety by taking advantage of the increased number of scanning engines and direct communication channels with the new partners. Google Play Protect went live in July 2017 and is scanning “over 50 billion apps on users’ devices each day to make sure apps installed on the device aren’t behaving in harmful ways”””
