Global Payments Breach Impact on Banks

The payment card data breach that hit third-party processor Global Payments Inc. is just the beginning. Banks and credit unions have to ride the rough waves of customers’ discontent and fears of possible identity theft and fraud. Experts recommend monitoring accounts, notifying customers and potentially even replacing cards if fraud is suspected. One card-issuing institution confirmed this week it has monitored accounts since March 23, once it was notified of a possible compromise. The breach involved fewer than 1.5 million accounts, rather than the more than 10 million originally reported.”]
