FTC Versus Spam: Tackling a Growing Problem

FTC summit on Spam addressed the growing problem of unsolicited emails. FTC Chairman Deborah Platt Majoras addressed the summit held July 11-12 in Washington, D.C. She said spam reaching consumers is more often being used to launch phishing attacks and deliver malicious code or malware to consumers’ computers. Social networking web sites have become yet another frontier for spam messages, she said. The FTC has engaged in aggressive law enforcement to combat spam in 89 law enforcement actions against 142 individuals and 99 companies.”]
