Former ‘Silk Road’ Associate Sentenced to 8 Months in Prison

Michael R. Weigand, who went by the online handle “Shabang,” has been sentenced to eight months in federal prison. He pleaded guilty in September to concealing his role in operating the Silk Road website. The site was shut down by law enforcement officials in October 2013. President Donald Trump is reportedly considering a pardon for Silk Road’s founder, Ross Ulbricht, who was later sentenced to life in prison. The website was used by thousands of alleged drug dealers and illicit actors to sell narcotics, computer hacking services, fake identification and firearms.”]
