Fight Back Against Identity Theft Part II: Steps Victims Can Take

Identity theft victims should place a fraud alert on their credit reports. Use new Personal Identification Numbers (PINs) and passwords when you open new accounts, use new PINs and passwords. Check your credit reports periodically to make sure no new fraudulent activity has occurred. Close the accounts that you know, or believe, have been tampered with or opened fraudulently. File a report with your local police or the police in the community where the identity theft took place. Contact the toll-free fraud number of any of the three consumer reporting companies below to place an alert.”]
