Feds Add Ransomware to Pump/Dump Scheme Charges

Prosecutors have expanded a case involving an alleged pump-and-dump stock scheme, hacking into U.S. banks and operating an unlicensed bitcoin exchange. The case includes money-laundering charges related to processing bitcoin ransoms paid by ransomware victims. Anthony Murgio and Yuri Lebedev are accused of operating Coin.mx, which allegedly launder illegal profits, in part, via offshore shell companies. All three are Florida residents, including Anthony’s father, Michael, who’s due to be arraigned on April 26.”]
