A new digital privacy bill has been introduced to the the Senate. The Consumer Online Privacy Rights Act (COPRA) would provide U.S. citizens the same kinds of privacy rights that E.U. citizens have under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) The bill would give data subjects the right to request which data companies are housing and ask for that data to be deleted or corrected. It would also require explicit consent for companies to collect and share sensitive data. The bill also opens the door for private-citizen lawsuits against tech companies over data collection.
