FDIC Offers Breach Prevention Advice: Urges Smaller Institutions to Monitor Merchants, Processors. Community banks are the focus of the advice, regulators say, because merchants and processors that handle higher-risk transactions often do business with these smaller institutions. The FDIC is reminding banking institutions that they are expected to perform risk assessments and conduct due diligence to ensure that the merchants which they work are operating in accordance with applicable laws and standards.
