FDIC: 829 Troubled Banks

The number of failed institutions is the highest since March 31, 1993. The total number of institutions has increased to 829 since then. A total of 171 institutions failed in the second quarter of 2010. The number is expected to peak in 2010, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. The U.N. agency says the number of banks that have failed is now at 829. The number has increased by more than a quarter in the past two years, the agency says.”]
