FCC to Investigate US Mobile Phone Location-Revealing Flaw

LocationSmart says it’s fixed a flaw in its website that could have been used to track any U.S. mobile phone user in real time. LocationSmart tracks and sells the location of mobile phone users and then sells it to marketing firms and other companies. The flaw in the company’s online demonstration site was discovered by Robert Xiao, a cybersecurity researcher, who also alerted cybersecurity blogger Brian Krebs. Senator Ron Wyden, D-Oregon, praised the move but called on the FCC to “expand the scope of this investigation””]
