A Dutch university has landed a European Research Council grant to continue work on a new operating system. The 2.5 million (US$3.3 million) grant will fund three researchers and two programmers. The project is called Minix, an operating system based on Unix that has a small code base and has strong security controls. The grant will be used to develop a new version of the Linux operating system that is more secure than Microsoft’s Windows and other versions of the operating software.
