DTE Energy had 400 incidents of energized conductor theft last year. Every day, multiple times a day, someone was stealing live copper wires. Last year it cost us well over $10 million to restore service when the wires were stolen. DTE has established a task force that meets once a week to combat metal theft. The legislation is helpful, but it has to come down to what happens when the judge hits his gavel, Michael Lynch says.
