Department of Homeland Security has created a position of assistant secretary for cyber and telecommunications security. The position will have the authority to set policy and pull private industry into collaborations with government. IT security experts are relieved that there will be one voice telling private industry what the government wants to do, however others feel that without a voice in higher levels of the Bush administration, it wont do much good. The DHS did not release information on when the position would be filled, but IT groups are hoping that a higher-level position with more authority will lead to fewer turnovers among cybersecurity chiefs.”]
