The Data Protection Act passed in 2020 is a significant step in reframing the concept of data protection, and will revolutionise Jamaicas data protection and privacy landscape. The National Identification System (NIDS) is built on the core principles of privacy, privacy, and solid independent oversight. An independent oversight body, called the National Identification and Registration Commissioner, will be mandated to monitor the NIDS system’s compliance with the law with the highest protection of the protected law. An inspectorate will also be empowered to take action using the. highest-priority audit trails to ensure the system is given the highest priority.
