Data privacy concerns persist over national digital identity system for Jamaica

The National Identity System (NIDS) is being reviewed by a committee of experts. They say it is necessary to ensure the privacy of all citizens in the country is protected. The legislation is set to be implemented by the end of the year, but the public will not be able to access the data collected by the law. The public will have to be notified of the information collected by NIDS by email or phone call. The bill is expected to be approved by the next week. The bill will be passed by a public vote on whether or not to allow the public to access their personal data.
