The number of nations with regulatory barriers preventing data flowing freely across borders has nearly doubled in four years. Data restrictions make it increasingly costly and complicated to do business in the digital economy, says ITIF. The most data-restrictive countries in the world are China, India, Russia, Turkey, and Turkey. The report concludes that like-minded nations should work together to stem the tide and build an open, rules-based, and innovative digital economy. It offers broad recommendations and specific steps to achieve them.
