The National Institute of Standards and Technology released a cybersecurity framework on Feb. 12. The framework provides best practices for use in all critical infrastructure sectors, including government, healthcare, financial services and transportation. Experts are pondering whether the voluntary approach to following the guidance might eventually need to be replaced by some sort of mandate. The success of the framework will be measured by how many organizations actually use it and whether it, indeed, “reduces cybersecurity risk,” says NIST executive Adam Sedgewick. The White House Cybersecurity Coordinator Michael Daniel says the next few months will share more details about potential incentives.”]
