Cybercriminals Prefer ‘Old School’ Money Laundering Methods

SWIFT report: Cybercriminals prefer to use ‘money mules’ and drug trafficking to launder money tied to bank hacking activities rather than cryptocurrency transactions. Money laundering is a complex operation requiring the stolen funds be introduced to a bank, moved through different accounts and finally re-introduced into the economy. Researchers found that cybercriminals, including nation-state actors, threat groups and individual hackers, believe physical methods of money laundering offer better obfuscation than modern methods such as using cryptocurrency.”]
