Cybercriminals Fill Up on Gas Pump Transaction Scams Ahead of Oct. Deadline

Gas stations are gearing up for a major change in credit-card fraud liability in October. In the meantime, cybercriminals will be targeting pay-at-the-pump point-of-sale mechanisms with a vengeance, researchers say. Gas pumps typically violate the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) regulation. Most of these transactions also don t conform to the PCI DSS, which requires that data exchanged in all old-school magnetic strip transactions should be encrypted in transit.
