Cybercrime Servers Selling Billions of Dollars’ Worth of Stolen Information, Illicit Services

Symantec: Total potential value of stolen goods and services in underground economy captured during a one-year period was $7 billion. Researchers studied stolen credit card information, financial accounts, malicious tools, and pirated software. Stolen credit card data accounted for nearly 60 percent of those revenues, according to the report. Botnet tools were the priciest malware at an average of $225, and phishing attack hosting services ranged from $2 to $80, the report says. In one case, it took only 15 minutes to transfer the money online to “untraceable” locations.”]
