CyberCops program: ROTC students as future cybersecurity gatekeepers

CyberCops program will introduce cybersecurity to students recruited from three universities’ ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) programs. Students will study models on statistics, machine learning, natural language processing and data mining. The program is funded by $250,000 grant from the U.S. Navy’s Office of Naval Research and sponsored by the University of Houston-Downtown and Texas Southern University. In cybersecurity circles, a zombie is a computer that’s under the control of an attacker. In early July, Microsoft announced discovery of the PrintNightmare hack and denial-of-service attack.
