Cyber Security Awareness Month in Jamaica

October is Cyber Security Awareness Month published Jamaica Bankers Association about Cyber Security Tips. Here’s a summary for you.

Because October Cyber Security Awareness Month, some general tips to stay safe on the web were shared. Lack of knowledge can be the source of exploitation; this issue is addressed best by education and training.

Some of the tips include:

  1. Staying abreast of potential risks and how best you can mitigate from them.
  2. Monitoring of account activity to identify any anomalies.
  3. Keeping your information confidential, such as PINs and password.
  4. Using different and complex passwords on different platforms.
  5. Be aware of suspicious links and think before mindlessly clicking on them, regardless if trusted individuals send it.
  6. Protecting devices that are connected to the internet by using anti-virus software and even VPNs.

Some of the current trends used in exploitation are:

  • Card Fraud such as ATM and POS Skimming
  • Internet Banking Fraud such as phishing and social engineering
  • Document Fraud
  • Basic Robbery
