Court ruling could leave bank on hook for online fraud

Court of Appeals ruled that a bank’s electronic transaction security procedures failed to meet the standard required under the Uniform Commercial Code. People’s United Bank sued for authorizing six fraudulent withdrawals from its account in May 2009. The bank was able to block or recover $243,406 of that total, but the case will never be adjudicated in court. Experts say this ruling changes the legal landscape in commercial, online banking. The case will be discussed in a webinar Wednesday at 11 a.m. EDT with a fraud expert.”]
