Contractor Faces Jail for Using Govt Servers for CryptoMining

The Australian Federal Police arrested a 33-year-old government IT contractor for allegedly running a shadow mining scheme using the government’s computing systems. The alleged shadow mining operation netted the Australian Government employee an estimated AUD$9000 worth of cryptocurrency. The man is scheduled to appear in Sydney Local Court (Downing Centre) to face charges of two counts of unauthorized modification of data to cause impairment, contrary to section 477.2 and 478.1 of the Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth)
