A developer has announced the intent to implement a feature in Chromium that would allow images in the SVG format to be used for a site’s favicon. A favicon is a small icon that is displayed at the top left of a web page next to the page’s title. In order to display favicons for different devices under different resolutions, developers have to create images in multiple sizes. A single SVG file can be scaled to any size without affecting the quality of the image. Firefox has had support for favicons since the end of 2015.
