China’s top quantum-computer researchers have reported they have achieved quantum supremacy. This means they have the ability to perform tasks a traditional supercomputer cannot do. Google, IBM, IonQ and IonQ have also claimed quantum supremacy, while IBM has also entered the quantum computing fray. Experts warn security teams need to prepare for the inevitable rise of quantum computing. The National Institute of Standards (NIST) hasn t determined its guidance yet and is currently in a competition to decide the final Post-Quantum Cryptology standard going forward.
