Cybersecurity firm Cybereason links three Chinese state-backed cyber-espionage campaigns to at least five major telecommunications companies in Southeast Asian countries since 2017. The campaigns, collectively named “DeadRinger,” are believed to have continued all the way to mid-2021. The three groups were found to be operating on behalf of a single Chinese threat actor, the researchers said. They called the attacks “highly adaptive” and called out their diligent efforts to stay under the radar and maintain persistence on infected endpoints.
