The Chinese government has shuttered 76 Websites for providing downloadable movies, music, and more copyrighted or otherwise protected content. 18 people were also arrested, and 29 Website operators were fined a total of roughly $98,000. The move represents the first major government crackdown on Internet piracy in China. The U.S. film, publishing, record and software industries claim they lost some $2.4 billion due to piracy in 2005.
