Cayman Islands Government published an article about their cybersecurity public education campaign. Here’s a summary:
Governor of the Cayman Islands, Mr. Martyn Roper, OBE stated that cybersecurity is an issue affecting all individuals which is why the campaign “Better Cyber safe than Sorry” will aid in creating public awareness about the importance of cybersecurity. The Office of Cyber and Information Security in the Ministry of Commerce, Planning and Infrastructure will launch its first cybersecurity public education campaign which will focus on good online practices and strategies which prevent cybercrime such as phishing and bank fraud.
Minister of Commerce, Planning and Infrastructure Hon. Joey Hew stated that the public education campaign is a very timely one as cybercrimes have been on the rise globally given that most aspects of our lives have moved online due to the pandemic. Cybersecurity issues have been prioritized and invested in by the government for effective security measures. To meet cyber challenges Office of Cyber and Information Security was created in 2019 to provide advice and guidance to agencies, departments and the Government.
Progress has been made in implementing the Government’s best cybersecurity toolset. An Information Security Framework has also been developed based on industry best practices and international standards.
