Security researcher Trevor Eckhart says Carrier IQ’s software helps phone companies surreptitiously track users. Carrier IQ sent a cease-and-desist letter to Eckhart accusing him of copyright infringement. The company demanded that Eckhart remove his analysis from the Web and replace it with an apology crafted by the company. The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) agreed to defend the researcher against the company’s threat. The EFF sent a note (PDF) to Carrier IQ, challenging its claims and asking it to withdraw its threat.”]
