Bitwarden: Auto-fill Security Questions

TL;DR

Bitwarden doesn’t directly auto-fill security questions. However, you can store the answers in a secure Note and use a browser extension (like Bitwarden itself) to copy/paste them when needed. This guide shows how.

How to Auto-fill Security Questions with Bitwarden

  1. Create a Secure Note:
    • Open Bitwarden (web or app).
    • Click ‘Add New Item’.
    • Select ‘Note’ as the item type.
    • Give the note a descriptive title, like “Security Question Answers”.
    • In the note content, list your security questions and their corresponding answers clearly.
      Question 1: Mother's maiden name
      Answer 1: Smith
      Question 2: First pet's name
      Answer 2: Buddy
    • Save the note. Make sure it’s in a secure folder if you use folders.
  2. Accessing Answers During Login (Method 1: Bitwarden Browser Extension):
    • When prompted for a security question on a website, open your ‘Security Question Answers’ note in Bitwarden.
    • Copy the relevant answer from the note.
    • Paste the answer into the security question field on the website.
  3. Accessing Answers During Login (Method 2: Copy/Paste):
    • If you’re not using the Bitwarden browser extension, open your ‘Security Question Answers’ note in a separate tab or window.
    • Copy the relevant answer from the note.
    • Paste the answer into the security question field on the website.
  4. Consider Using Different Answers:
    • For increased cyber security, avoid using the same answers for multiple accounts. Bitwarden helps you manage unique answers easily.
  5. Keep Your Note Secure:
    • Ensure your master password is strong and unique.
    • Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) for your Bitwarden account.
