Attackers Earn Over $1 Million in Florida Ransomware Attacks

City of Lake City, Florida, was hit by a ‘Ransomware’ attack on its computers on June 10. The hackers demanded a ransom of 42 Bitcoins, which is over $530,000 at today’s value, to provide the decryption keys that would restore the data on affected systems. Lake City was left with no option but to pay the ransom; the bitcoins were sent to the hackers on Tuesday. Riviera Beach city also in Florida gave into a ransom demand after data was locked in an incident on May 29.
